Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do I need to work on a superyacht?
You’ll need your STCW (Basic Safety Training) and an ENG1 medical certificate. From there, we can recommend extra courses (like Powerboat Level 2 or Steward/Deckhand training) based on your goals.
How much does it cost to get started?
We don’t deliver the training ourselves, but we work closely with trusted training providers and can recommend the right courses for your goals. Most people spend between $1,800–$3,000 USD to get fully set up — including STCW, medical, travel, and optional extras.
Do I need experience to get my first job?
No experience? No problem. Plenty of crew start fresh — but it’s a competitive industry. Maiden Voyage helps boost your marketability and get you yacht-ready with the right tools, training, and support.
How long does it take to get a job after training?
Some land work in a few weeks, others take a few months — even up to a year. It all depends on timing, location, and how ready you are. At Maiden Voyage, we move at your pace. Whether you're keen to get going fast or wait until it feels right, we’ll help you make it happen.
What’s the pay like?
Entry-level roles typically start at $2,200–$3,300 USD/month (tax-free), plus tips — and that’s with all your food, accommodation, and travel covered. You’re not just working — you’re getting paid to see the world.
Where do I need to go to find work?
Most crew head to France, Spain, or Italy during the Mediterranean season, then Florida and the Caribbean in winter.
Once your profile is polished and market-ready, we’ll help you craft a smart job search strategy and timing tailored to your ideal start date.
